Identification and preservation of photographic and digital materials
Three day workshop focusing on the identification, preservation and preventive conservation of photographic and digitally generated materials.
The workshop focuses on the identification and preservation of the most common photographic materials, but also digital print media found in collections and archives.
Each workshop combines lectures, practical demonstrations and practical work, and has room for a maximum of 8 participants.
The workshop will provide knowledge about
- Identification of photographic techniques and materials
- Causes of injuries and prevention of injuries

Handling/transportation
Exhibition practice
Practical tasks:
- Cleaning of photographic surfaces
- Implementation of some identification methods
Lectures and demonstrations are held by Preus Museum's photo conservator and PhD candidate Jens Gold. The workshop is held in the Preus museum's conservation department, and both exhibitions and the library are visited during the course.
Each workshop comes with a binder with useful information relevant to the course content.
