The two-day course with photo conservator Jens Gold has the main theme of identification and conservation of photographic negatives.

Paper negative from the Narath collection. Preus Museum collection

Particular emphasis is placed on what challenges there are with negative material, and what maximum lifespan we can expect from a negative, or an entire negative archive with its special characteristics and storage requirements.

This workshop focuses on the identification and preservation of photographic negative material found in most collections and archives. In addition, rare techniques from the museum's collection will be presented.

Each workshop combines lectures, practical demonstrations and practical work, and has room for a maximum of 8 participants.

The workshop will provide knowledge about

  • techniques/materialscauses of damage
  • prevention of injuries - i.a. correct storage, handling, transport, exhibition, freezing of acetate and nitrate negatives
  • some basic practical conservation methods.
